Prague Conference on Political Economy at VSE

Prague Conference on Political Economy is an international and interdisciplinary gathering of scholars and supporters (not only) of the Austrian School of Economics and political economy of freedom.

During three days of the conference, participants will have an opportunity to participate in lectures and debates focusing on economics, history, philosophy and other humanities, and to discuss these issues with leading theorists in the field, both from Europe and overseas.

This conference is an attempt to resurrect the tradition of Austrian economics- and liberty-oriented thinking that thrived in central Europe at the beginning of the 20th century, but sadly disappeared thereafter. By establishing an annual forum for scholars and students to meet and exchange ideas it is hoped to build a solid institutional basis for the advancement of the Austrian research program.

All students are invited to participate on the Conference for free.

Memorial Lectures
The highlights of the PCPE are named lectures commemorating the heritage of two towering statures of economic science whose lives are bound with the city of Prague: Franz Cuhel and Friedrich Wieser.

The Cuhel Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Prof. Hans-Hermann Hoppe.
Hoppe is the foremost economist writing in the tradition of Austrian Economics. He is author of A Theory of Capitalism and Socialism, The Ethics and Economics of Private Property, Democracy: The God that Failed and editor of The Myth of National Defense. He authored numerous articles in areas of comparative economics, methodology of economics and discourse ethics. In 2005 he founded the Property and Freedom Society.

The Wieser Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Prof. em. Svetozar Pejovich (Texas A&M University). Pejovich is author of nine books, e.g. Fundamentals of Economics: A Property Rights Approach; The Economics of Property Rights: Towards a Theory of Comparative Economic Systems; Law, Informal Institutions and Economic Performance. He authored five monographs and hundreds of articles in professional academic journals including the Journal of Law and Economics, Journal of Economic History, Journal of Economic Literature, Review of Austrian Economics. Pejovich has written extensively in areas of comparative economics, transition and property rights.
