The 2nd European Day at VŠE: Europe more closely – far away from the theory and Lisbon treaty

Theoretical disputes about Europe do not lead anywhere – let’s experience a practical Europe. The 2nd European Day at the University of Economics, Prague, is organized by Centre of European Studies, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and Eurocenter Prague. The day offers interesting professional lectures and seminars as well as simulation games, practical workshops and cultural events. The European Day will be held 8 April 2010 at the University of Economics, Prague. All visitors are welcome free of charge.

During the whole day presentations of the following institutions will be prepared in the atrium: Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Centre of European Studies, European Values, German-Czech Chamber of Commerce, Respekt, European Commission, IREAS, Eurocenter Prague, SIMP, Buddy System, AIESEC, and International Studies Centre. The individual organizations will demonstrate the variety of European projects.

The member of the European Parliament, Martin Kastler (CSU), will talk about possibilities of the cooperation between Germany and the Czech Republic within the European Union. The director of the Czech Republic Office of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Hubert Gehring, will thereafter speak about hindsight from the economic crisis and he will present a model of the social-market economy in particular.

The economic crisis is also a topic of the panel discussion called "Impacts and solutions of the economic crises in the EU’s environment". Three prominent speakers will introduce their opinions: Martina Horníková from European Central Bank, Jaroslav Vokoun, a member of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, and Petr Zahradník from the EU Office of Česká spořitelna.

Would you like to play a role of France in the EU? No problem! The applicants can try the political profession during the simulation of decision-making process in the EU’s institution and they can take up the role of individual member states. Participants will learn to enforce their own positions and policy under the guidance of experts from the non-profit organization dealing with European matters, EUTIS, o. p. s.

Visitors who are interested in the work of media and a successful communication are invited to two workshops led by Bára Procházková from the weekly magazine Respekt. Participants of the seminars will get knowledge of ways to address the public through media and how to present themselves the best.

Europe is also a culture – the recent history of a divided Europe is the main motive of the exhibition "Open border". The photographer Ivan Tatíček has captured various interesting moments and pictures in the border zone around the "Iron Curtain", not long ago inaccessible to the public.

The Slovak documentary "How to cook the history" (Jak se vaří dějiny) represents an unconventional view of the history influenced by military cooks, from the World War Two to the War in Chechnya.
