Master’s Programs in English at VŠE

The University of Economics, Prague (VŠE) offers several Master’s programs taught in English. Their main advantage is not only the possibility to study in English but to study in a multicultural environment. Most of them are run in cooperation with partner universities where part of the study also takes place.

This enables students to broaden their knowledge by approaches and experience from studying abroad. According to § 58 of the law 111/1998 on university education, they are fee-based study programs.

International Business – Central European Business Realities

This is a two-year (four-semester) full-time master’s program taught in English. The program was established to address the specificities and characteristics of the Central European business environment within the framework of the increasing trends of globalization. It provides students with a comprehensive business education in the main fields of economics, management, finance, marketing and negotiations. Students are offered the possibility to fulfill part of their study obligations at one of the following four universities: the University of Lyon Business & Management School (France), the University of Applied Science in Mainz (Germany), the Management Centre Innsbruck (Austria), or at the International University Geneva (Switzerland), and to obtain graduate degrees (a double degree) from both the Czech and host universities.

International Management (CEMS MIM)

This is a full-time two-year academic training program for students at the bachelor level with interests and career intentions in international companies and the international environment. The program provides students with a comprehensive business education in the main fields of economics, management, finance, marketing, cross-cultural communication and negotiations. The program is organized by the Faculty of Business Administration and is fully run in English. The starting point of the program is the CEMS MIM covering mostly the first year of studies. With regard to its interdisciplinary character, teachers from the Faculty of Finance and Accounting, the Faculty of International Relations and the Faculty of Informatics and Statistics also take an active part. Students will also have many opportunities to enroll in courses where visiting professors are invited to participate. An indispensable part of the studies is a semester spent abroad at a CEMS partner university.

Economics of International Trade and European Integration

This is an English-language international studies program. The program is organized by a consortium of seven European partner universities; however, the teaching itself takes place at only four of them (apart from VŠE, this group also includes Universiteit Antwerpen, Université des Sciences et Technologies de Lille, and Staffordshire University). The program has two main characteristics. First, in 2005, the program was selected by the European Commission as an ERASMUS MUNDUS program, and it has been running as such since the academic year 2006/07. Second, the EITEI is a Joint European Studies Program, a category having certain specific features.

Economic and Regional Studies of Latin America

The Faculty of Economics and Public Administration of the University of Economics has prepared a new two year master’s program called Economic and Regional Studies of Latin America. It will start in September 2010. This program offers a great opportunity to acquire substantial international experience and to obtain a double degree. Degrees are both from the University of Economics, Prague and one of the most prestigious universities in Latin America. Besides the new MA program, also two minor specializations, which can be chosen as a part of this new MA program, have been prepared. The first specialization is European Regional and Economic Studies and the second is Central European Regional and Economic Studies.

Finance and Accounting for Common Europe

This is an innovative, two-year program supported by the European Union. The Master’s in Finance and Accounting for a Common Europe program provides you with an understanding of how financial decisions in Europe can affect a firm’s value. The financial approach towards managerial decision making, taking into account behavioral aspects, describing and analyzing problems of choice and providing executives with the background and tools for financial analysis is indispensable. This master’s program is built on three pillars: the educational program, the research program and the personal development program. The educational program provides a profound knowledge of the necessary theories and frameworks and how to apply theory to practice. The research program prepares students for academic research. In the personal development program, students reflect on themselves and the program in order to gain an understanding of their personal growth in the study program.

International and Diplomatic Studies

This is a two-year (four-semester) full-time master’s program taught in English at the University of Economics, Prague. The program covers the fields of international politics, international economics, international law, comparative politics, diplomatic history, as well as diplomatic theory and practice. A strong emphasis is placed on issues regarding the European Union, yet the program includes a variety of optional courses on comparative politics and international relations in other parts of the world, too. As part of the program, students are sent abroad for a semester to be hosted by a partner university (France, Germany, Mexico, Poland, Turkey, etc.).
