University of Economics websites – 2nd in Europe and 6th in the world
The websites of the University of Economics were ranked amongst the best in the world in the „Ranking Web of World Business School“. The University of Economics is just four places behind Harvard Business School and right behind Danish CBS.
The quantitative assessment of university websites is done by the Spanish research centre Cybermetrics Lab (http://business-schools.webometrics.info/about.html), a part of Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) which associates more than 120 research centres and institutes in Spain. The aim of the Webometrics project is to support the accessibility of repositories and websites of the monitored universities and schools. The assessment is carried out at over 1500 business schools twice a year.
In the worldwide assessment of business schools were the following top 10 schools (in the columns one can also see the ranking of each school in the given criterion.)

The assessment is not done only for the main school website (www.vse.cz), but also includes the faculty and department websites and the catalogue of courses in the ISIS system.
The success of the University of Economics is most probably to be found in introducing the WordPress publishing platform to all faculty and almost all department websites of the University of Economics. Thanks to this transformation, many faculty and department websites were revised and upgraded with more information. An important factor is the easy use of the publishing platform. The departmental websites are interconnected with the faculty websites and through this they share important dates and news, and with the ISIS system they share information about teachers, courses, schedules of consultations etc. All of this helps to keep the websites up to date.
The main criterion of the ranking is the total number of unique external links to the vse.cz domain. This criterion was made more important and this year it makes 50% of the total ranking. Another criterion is the size of the websites (counting the number of pages indexed in the four biggest web search engines – 40%), the number of available PDF files on the domain 5% (here we should mention the high number of full text on-line publications of science magazines by the University of Economics – Prague Economic Papers, Political Economics, Acta Oeconomica Pragensia) and also, for example, the digitizing of rare prints, the so-called Golden Fund of Czech economic thoughts, and a number of articles published since 2001 and available through Google Scholar).
The websites are run by a team of webmasters at CIKS (Centrum of Information and Librarian services) and the PR department team.
