The Three-Millionth Student of the Erasmus Program is from VŠE

Vojtěch Zrůst from the Faculty of Informatics and Statistics, University of Economics, Prague (VŠE) was selected for the Czech Republic as the “three-millionth” student of the Erasmus Program of the European Union. He studied IT at Reykjavik University in Iceland.

In 1987, the European Union launched a program which supports the international mobility of university students and teachers, and cooperation in higher education in Europe. This year, the number of students who have participated in it has reached 3 million.

On this remarkable occasion, the European Commission decided to launch “The 3 millionth Erasmus student” event. From each country that participates in the Erasmus Program (32 countries in total), based on applications, a graduate of the program was selected to represent her or his country as a “three-millionth” student.

Vojtěch Zrůst, a student of the master’s program Cognitive Informatics at the Faculty of Informatics and Statistics, was selected for the Czech Republic. In academic year 2012/2013, he was sent to study at Reykjavik University in Iceland.

Reykjavik University, which has cooperated with VŠE since 2008, is part of a network of more than 200 partner schools of the university; almost two thirds of them have joined the Erasmus Program. In 2012, VŠE sent abroad a total of 729 students; 438 of them were part of the Erasmus Program. The program remains the most important tool for the support of student and teacher mobility.
