Master in Information Systems Management
The Master in Information Systems Management (ISM) is a two-year English-taught master’s degree program newly available at the Faculty of Informatics and Statistics (FIS) of VŠE. It is meant for anyone aiming at a career as an IT manager, project manager, information systems auditor, knowledge engineer, business analyst or consultant, either in the private or the public sector.
ISM Curriculum & Structure
ISM is designed as a two-year full-time program starting in September.
To successfully complete the whole curriculum (120 ECTS credits), it is necessary to take eight compulsory courses (totaling 49 ECTS), several optional courses (so they sum a minimum of 26 ECTS), a minor specialization (several courses totaling 30 ECTS), two final state exams (9 ECTS) and prepare a master’s thesis (6 ECTS).
The key areas of study represent a carefully balanced blend of technology- and management-oriented subjects related to IS/ICT management, enterprise IT, business process engineering and optimization, project management, information systems audit and data mining.
Within the minor specialization, students can choose to focus on business and management issues or on insurance mathematics.
To make the curriculum even more international, there is an optional study abroad component: the third ISM semester can be completed at a university abroad, usually within the VŠE exchange program.
Life at VŠE
ISM students will become a part of the FIS community comprised of students and academic staff members not only dedicated to their fields of study and research, but also participating in international activities and involved in projects carried out in cooperation with businesses.
On the VŠE campus, ISM students will be able to meet students of other faculties and disciplines, both local and international, and will have the opportunity to attend academic, cultural, social and career-oriented events or to get involved in student societies.
Financial Issues
As in the case of most of international programs at VŠE, the ISM tuition fee is 1 800 EUR/semester.
According to VŠE regulations, university/faculty scholarships can be awarded especially to students achieving outstanding study results and to students being officially sent for a semester abroad. For general information about the scholarships available to international students coming to the Czech Republic, it is advisable to refer to studyin.cz.
Accommodation and dining services at prices considerably lower than market prices are available to all VŠE students.
Applications for 2015/2016
Those interested in starting ISM in September 2015 need to submit their application by 30 April 2015, which is the general VŠE deadline for 2015/2016 admissions.
