Conference Climate and Economy at VŠE
On 30th October, the international conference „Climate and Economy: Turning Problems into Opportunities“ will be held at the VŠE. The event is organized under the auspices of the rector of the University of Economics, Prague Prof. Hana Machková, His Excellency, Jean-Pierre Asvazadourian, the Ambassador of France, will participate in. This conference is organized on the occasion of the UN Climate Change Conference held in Paris in November.
The conference is organized also under the auspices of the rector of the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague Prof. Ing. Jiří Balík, CSc., Dr.h.c., and the rector of the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague Prof. Ing. Karel Melzoch, CSc. We would like to invite students, teachers and public.
A month from now the 21st session of the United Nations’ Conference of the Parties (COP 21) will be officially kicked-off in Paris. There will meet global and local stakeholders in order to reach a comprehensive and binding agreement that must alleviate the consequences of climate change and limit to 2-degrees the global temperature rise. Experts and politicians agree that “Climate Finance” is the key of ongoing negotiations. What does that truly mean?
The aim of that lecture is to bring up down-to-earth explanations on how economic and financial tools can tackle climate change. It will be followed by short presentations showcasing considered and implemented tools in the Czech Republic (i.e. carbon tax, EU ETS market, subsidies), where their relation to economic competitiveness will be questioned.
- The conference will take place in the Vencovského aula at the University of Economics, Prague (VŠE) from 10 to 12:30.
- The language of the conference is English.
