Second year of Food Collection at VŠE

OIKOS Prague and the Union of Students’ organizations announce, that on 12th and 13th April, 2016, the second year of the Food Collection will take place at the University of Economics, Prague [VŠE].

Last year the students of the VŠE managed to collect 245kg of food, which was distributed to the shelters for children. OIKOS Prague and the Union of Students believe this year an even higher amount of food will be collected.

This event is becoming a cherished tradition at the university. Students and employees of the VŠE have a possibility to change consumer habits. Especially nowadays, when one third of the food production is wasted and when approximately 795 million people in the world are chronically malnourished.

On 12th and 13th April, 2016, boxes will be placed in the Rajská building of the VŠE, where everyone can contribute food items for the Food bank. Based on our experience from last year, the food will again be distributed to childrens’ shelters.

The only condition is that the food has not gone past its expiry date. People can bring anything that is not open or has not spoiled, including dairy products, fruit, vegetables, pasta, chocolates and so on.

The students of the VŠE want to demonstrate that they are not indifferent to the terrible situation caused by the irresponsible waste of food and resultant food shortages. Food collection is an opportunity for the students to donate food that would otherwise be thrown out, while at the same time helping other people.
