The VŠE Has Won in the Universities’ Football Battle
On Thursday, 21st April, 2016 at FK Viktoria Žižkov stadium the UniCup competition took place for the second year of the league. In the finals, the VŠE team deservedly won, when it defeated Charles University 2:1. The winning goal was scored by the VŠE team captain David Podzimek.
The VŠE team won the first match against the Czech Agricultural University 3:1. In the final they met league favourites, the Charles University team. The words of the captain, in an interview for iList were fully confirmed, when he said: “Our main advantage is teamwork. Over the years, we have come to know each other well, and become friends. We know about each other; we talk together. Our team cohesion is completely different than that found among the other teams that maybe train more, or have better footballers on paper. Lots of guys from our team don’t even really play anywhere else, but we are making it up with team spirit and determination. That is our strength. “
The prize was handed over to the winners by the Rector of the VŠE, Hana Machková. “I am really proud of the performance of our footballers. Not only did they play well, but they put their heart and soul into the game. I’m sorry that two of our players sustained injuries. I do hope they recover soon. And congratulations to the captain on a wonderful goal from his free kick.”
