European Commission Vice President for Budget and Human Resources at VŠE
On 11th of December 2015 European Commission Vice-President of the budget and human resources Kristalina Georgieva will perform at the University of Economics, Prague. Her lecture on the topic Current Challenges for the budget of the European Union is organized by Delegation of the European Commission in collaboration with the University’s Centre for European Studies.
Kristalina Georgieva is Vice-President of the European Commission and European Commissioner for Budget and Human Resources in Jean-Claude Juncker‘s committee. During the years 2010-2014 she was commissioner for international cooperation, development assistance and crisis management in the Commission of J.M. Barroso. In the past, she held various positions at the World Bank.
Kristalina Georgieva will focus her lecture on the EU budget. At the end of November, the EU approved the largest budget in history. The increased funds will be used for example for dealing with refugee crises and humanitarian foreign aid. Almost half of the budget, however, will be used to stimulate economic growth, employment and competitiveness. The key elements of the 2016 budget also include funds for investment or science (e.g. Horizon 2020) and program Erasmus +.
The Vice-President of the European Commission and lecture participants can discuss among other things how are the Czechs doing in the EU institutions, or topics related to a whole portfolio of the Commissioner, which includes the issue of human resources. The lecture will be moderated by Michala Hergetová.
The lecture will be held on Friday 11th of December at 2. 15 p. m. in the room RB211.
The lecture will be in English. Interpreting from English into Czech will be provided.
