Master in Finance and Accounting (MIFA)
Admission procedure is now open for the academic year 2018/2019 for the two-year full time master´s program MIFA taught in English at the Faculty of Finance and Accounting, University of Economics, Prague.
Curriculum of MIFA
The curriculum of the Finance and Accounting master’s program is designed so that students acquire a deep knowledge in the core fields, while at the same time allowing them the flexibility to tailor their education to personal needs and interests. Core courses focus on Intermediate Accounting: Generally Accepted Principles, Performance Management, Business Ethics, Economics II, Corporate Finance, International Finance, Financial Derivatives, Understanding Economic and Social Indicators, Taxation in the CR and EU, Business Valuation, Audit and Assurance, Economic Integration, Project. We take an analytical and international perspective in all courses.
Flexibility to tailor education to one’s personal needs is provided by the second year of studies, where students can select from the following opportunities:
- apply for an exchange semester at one of our partner universities in Europe,
- experience an internship in Europe,
- study five elective courses at University of Economics, Prague
- or choose Double Degree programme in partnership with Université catholique de Louvain, Belgium. Double Degree offers a Master in Management or Business Engineering.
During the second year, students will also write their master’s thesis. The master’s thesis is viewed as an opportunity for students to take the first step towards a future job by choosing a subject that will lead to further specialization within one of the key areas.
Career Options:
Courses are designed to provide graduates with success in financial departments of corporate management, auditing, accounting and financial advisory firms, as well as in institutions of financial supervision and government bodies. Acquired competencies and the method of studies will develop analytical and problem solving abilities and help students apply them in making management decisions; this will enhance the ability of graduates to adapt to changing conditions of a labor market and as well as with professional development over their working lives.
Competitive Advantage:
Successful completion of this program will help students to receive exemptions from some of the entry level examinations of professional accountancy bodies such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountant in England and Wales (ICAEW). The selected master’s program in Finance at the Faculty of Finance and Accounting participates in the CFA Institute “University Recognition Program”.
Admission Procedure:
With regard to the MIFA admission procedure, the program is designed for students from all over the world who have completed their bachelor’s education (or are about to complete their bachelor’s education no later than in September 2018). Very good knowledge of English is expected. Applicants must prove their English knowledge at the entrance exam. The entrance exam consists of two steps. In the 1st step (on – line), applicants complete a case study on a given topic (economics, finance and accounting). The 2nd step is an in person or on-line interview via web cam on the 21st – 23rd May 2018. The tuition fee is 1 800 EUR per semester. The application deadline for the 2018/2019 academic year is 30th April 2018.
