Foreign students at the University of Economics

The number of foreign students studying at the University of Economics, Prague is growing every year. There are students from 52 countries of the world here during winter term 2010/2011.

Internationalization is a long-term strategic priority of the University of Economics, Prague. Foreigners can study in Czech or foreign language study programs at our university. More than 3 000 foreign students studied in bachelor or master’s study programs in Czech at the six faculties in 2009. Foreign students make up 16% of the total number of students. The citizens of Slovak Republic, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Belarus, and Vietnam are most common among foreign students. The majority of the international students study at the Faculty of International Relations, the Faculty of Business Administration and the Faculty of Finance and Accounting.

Foreigners studying in English are coming to the University of Economics as exchange students, or they study in one of the six master programs in English or in a paid study program as so-called free movers. It is essential for UEP to accept foreign students in order to send more and more Czech students to study abroad.

The exchange program is based on the principal of reciprocity. Both foreign and Czech students have to take courses in the total value of 30 ECTS. The courses are accepted at their home universities as a part of their studies. The foreign students can choose from a wide selection of courses thanks to the effort of all faculties. The university received 191 exchange students this winter term.

There are 97 foreign students studying in English master’s programs, most of them in the International Business – Central European Business Realties program (65) and in the International Management CEMS MIM (15) program. Additional programs include: Finance and Accounting for Common Europe, the International and Diplomatic Studies program and Economic and the Regional Studies of Latin America program. One specific of the Economics of International Trade and European Integration program is the fact that the students study in three different countries during this program; they will spend spring term at at the University of Economics.

In the free mover program (for individual student mobility), there are 29 students from the USA, France, and Canada participating in CESP – Central and East European Studies Program – during winter term.
