New Modular Classroom at the VŠE: Revolutionizing education with procognitive lighting

At the Prague University of Economics and Business (VŠE) we have opened a new modular lecture room Quattro Modulare, which represents a significant step forward in the modernization of our educational environment. This classroom combines modern design, flexibility and the latest technology with innovative procognitive lighting from Spectrasol. This space is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also designed to support students’ cognitive function and create optimal conditions for learning. The Ministry of Education also contributed to the creation of the space as part of the National Recovery Plan – Modernisation and Digitisation of the University of Economics in Prague.

Light that supports the mind

One of the key features of the new classroom is procognitive lighting. At a time when people spend up to 90% of their time in artificially lit interiors without natural biological qualities, Spectrasol delivers a solution that mimics the spectrum of sunlight.

Light is key to supporting the biological needs of humans. The installed full-spectrum procognitive LED lighting technology mimics natural sunlight and supports the body’s circadian rhythms,” says Spectrasol CEO Daniel Jesensky, “In this way, we positively impact the vitality, health, mood and cognitive function of students and teachers, ” explaining the benefits of the technology.

Proven benefits for students

The effectiveness of procognitive lighting has been confirmed in a number of studies, for example, the CVUT in Prague high schools showed that with this type of LED lighting, after three months students improved by 15% in short-term memory tests and up to 20% in attention retention.

Key benefits of procognitive lighting:

  • Mimicking sunlight: The best-balanced spectrum supports a person’s natural biorhythms.
  • Cognitive support: Increases alertness, speed of thought and concentration.
  • Improving performance: Strengthens memorization ability and reduces errors.
  • Positive effect on mood: Increases subjective satisfaction and emotional attunement.
  • Promotes health: Regenerates the retina of the eye and strengthens immunity.
  • Eye safety: Does not harm in the area of harmful blue light and provides high visual comfort.

Flexibility and modularity in practice

Quattro Modulare is not just about a modern type of lighting. The modular design of the classroom makes it quick and easy to adapt the space to the current teaching needs.

  • Flexible tables and chairs allow for different configurations for lectures, seminars or group work.
  • Modular walls: allow spaces to be divided or combined as required, increasing the usability of the classroom.
  • Modern technology: the classroom is equipped with the latest audiovisual equipment to support interactive learning.

Education for the 21st century

This innovative classroom is the answer to the changing needs of education in today’s world. Students need more than just passively receiving information; they require an environment that fosters creativity, collaboration and critical thinking.

“The classroom is primarily designed for professional programs, for teaching interactive courses, and for executive education at the VŠE. It will also be a modern and variable facility for various events such as hackathons and workshops,” explained Vice-Rector Ota Novotný, who was the main initiator of the construction of the space.

The new modular classroom at VŠE represents a significant step towards modernising the educational environment.

At the VŠE we are constantly striving to make our spaces more comfortable and modern, and in the last year we have opened not only the Quattro Modulare, but also a modern Coworking space.
