Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, at the University of Economics and Business
The Prague University of Economics and Business had the honour to welcome the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, who took part in a debate on 14 February 2024 on the topic “Deciding together: what kind of Europe do we want?”. The debate, which took place in the RB 101 auditorium, offered students and academic staff a unique opportunity to hear from the President and engage in a conversation about the future of the European Union and its direction.
On arrival, Ms Metsola was warmly welcomed by the Rector of the VŠE, Petr Dvořák, and the school’s management. A discussion with students and young people followed, during which the President stressed the importance of young people’s active participation in the political process, especially in the context of the upcoming European Parliament elections.
Students and other attendees had the opportunity to ask President Metsola questions on a wide range of topics, from the fight against disinformation to immigration policy to the representation of the Czech Republic in the European Parliament. The debate was also live-streamed, allowing for wider public participation.
Following the meeting with the President, which was the highlight of her visit, an interview with popular influencer Kovy took place, providing further insight into the topics discussed. Before leaving, the President received a gift of a sweatshirt with our logo and signed the book of distinguished guests.
This important event not only strengthened the links between the VŠE and the European institutions, but also underlined the importance of involving the young generation in the decision-making processes that shape the future of Europe. Our University is proud to have hosted such an inspiring gathering and looks forward to future events that will promote student awareness and engagement in European and international affairs.
