Sustainability and Responsible Management at VŠE: Opportunities for Students and the Public
Sustainability and responsible business are becoming key areas in today’s global economy. These days, the European Sustainable Development Week is taking place to raise awareness on this topic. Prior to its launch, we already signed a memorandum of cooperation on corporate sustainability with the Business Leaders Forum or wrote about research on food waste. We would also like to introduce you to the study programmes and specialised courses, as well as public courses on sustainability that you can study at the VŠE. These educational programmes are designed to provide students and the general public not only with in-depth theoretical knowledge, but also with the practical skills needed to address the complex challenges associated with the environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainable development.
Opportunities to study sustainability at the VŠE
One of the key sustainability-focused programmes at the VŠE is the Faculty of Business Administration’s new Master in Sustainability Management. This two-year programme, taught in English, provides students with a comprehensive education in sustainability, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and sustainable business management. The program combines economic, environmental, and social aspects to prepare students for careers in the private and public sectors where they can actively contribute to solving global sustainability challenges.
The programme emphasises the link between theory and practice through collaboration with business partners and participation on real-life projects. In this way, students gain not only in-depth theoretical knowledge but also the practical skills needed to implement sustainable strategies in practice.
ESG courses and vocational training at the VŠE
The Faculty of Finance and Accounting has an Institute of Sustainable Finance, which offers specialised courses on ESG (only in Czech). These courses are designed for students and practitioners who want to deepen their knowledge of sustainability and responsible business. The programmes provide the practical skills needed to implement ESG principles into corporate strategies and processes.
Participants will gain up-to-date knowledge of the latest ESG trends and legislative requirements, learn how to effectively manage ESG risks and be able to prepare high-quality ESG reports. The courses are led by experienced experts from academia and business and offer interactive learning with an emphasis on practical applications and case studies.
VSE and involvement in the NPO Green Deal project
A significant step in the field of sustainability is the involvement of VŠE in the NPO Green Deal project through the Sustainable Education and Environmental Development (SEED) initiative. This project, funded with 42 million CZK, aims to revise existing curricula and create new programmes and courses focused on green and digital transformation. SEED will create two new degree programmes – Sustainability Management at the FPH and Green Transition and European Competitiveness at the FIR, which will start in September 2025. The project also includes the creation of 15 new courses, 14 lifelong learning courses and the innovation of 50 existing courses. An important component is the development of a Sustainability Strategy for the VŠE, which will focus on energy and waste management, supply chains and digitalisation. This comprehensive initiative demonstrates the VŠE’s commitment to sustainable development and preparing students for the challenges of green transformation.
The VŠE educates future leaders and contributes to creating a more sustainable future for all.
